Practice 4 In Lean Start-up Strategy: To Add Variety In Your Offering By Increasing User Autonomy
According to our concept test last week, we define our business strategy as "assembling parts into a whole", that is to buy secondhand furnitures, then to sell and deliver them as a set. On one hand, it is valuable to our users because they no longer need to buy single furnitures from various sellers. On the other hand, it reduces our cost on delivery.
Based on concept above, we tested two forms of furniture set sell on craiglist and student BBS. To find out user's preference about furniture display, we designed two forms as follows. The furnitures for bedroon are about same quality and price. We price both set as $120 including free delivery.
Pic A is a group of furnitures well embellished as brand-new furnitures from online store such as ikea.
Pic B is a set of furnitures in original photo which shows their authentic state.
We posted those two pictures on craiglist and student BBS at the same time. And we received several inquirys.
One user from BBS prefered A rather than B. In addition, he asked whether he can buy the bed and nightstand in Pic. A, two sidetables in Pic. A and Pic. B and the floor lamp from Pic. B. And he was willing to pay another $10 dollar for the set with 5 items he asked for.
From that user's situation, we concludes that users need more autonomy about the combination of products. So we may allow users to make their own furniture combination.
